The app

Capture Companion is a local menu bar utility. It does not phone home, send usage statistics, create an account, or transmit anything about your camera, your shots, or your shoots. It goes online for a few plain jobs, every one listed below, and none of them carries your photos or your shoots.

When it uses the network

Each of these, and nothing else:

Your own router. To watch your Wi-Fi signal and run the Tether Doctor, the app reads statistics from your own router over your own local network, using read only commands and a key you control. That stays on your Mac, it's never stored remotely or sent off your machine.

Updates and the routers list. Once a day, when your Mac is online, the app asks DigiOp's own update server (updates.digiopapps.com) whether a new version is out, and fetches the latest list of routers it knows how to read. The request carries the app's name and version, as any download does, and nothing about you, your camera or your shoots. A new version downloads only when you choose to install it.

The Tether Doctor's internet check. To tell an internet problem from a camera problem, the Doctor opens a plain connection to a public address (Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1, or Google's 8.8.8.8 if that one doesn't answer) and closes it again. Nothing is sent. It runs when you open the Doctor, and on its own when the tether drops, so the likely cause is on record.

Problem reports. Only when you press Send to DigiOp, and only after the app has shown you what's in the report. What a report holds, what it never holds, and how long it's kept are set out on the DigiOp Apps privacy page.

Licences. The beta needs no licence, so the app checks none.

Our web host keeps its usual short lived access logs of these requests, including the internet address they came from, as every website does.

This website

capturecompanion.ie is a static page. It sets no advertising or tracking cookies and runs no third party analytics.

Purchases

When you buy a licence, payment is handled by our payment processor, Stripe. They receive the details needed to take the payment and send you your download and licence, your name, email, and payment information, under their own privacy terms. We never see or store your full card details. We keep your email and order record only to deliver the product, provide support, and meet tax/accounting obligations.

Your rights

You can ask us what order data we hold about you, or ask us to delete it (where we are not legally required to keep it for tax records). Just email us.
